Bulletin Board Ideas About Animal Science for Preschool

Classroom bulletin boards often are thought of as a decorative aspect of the learning environment but should not be overlooked as an important educational tool. Young students in preschool who have not yet learned to read can gain a great deal of information about animal science concepts represented visually on bulletin boards as teachers present information through lessons.
  1. Hibernation

    • To show the various environments that animals go to when they are in hibernation, cut out shapes or windows that can be opened to reveal the animal inside. For example, a picture of a cave cut in half could be attached to the board to reveal a picture of a bear underneath. The background of the bulletin board could be blue to represent the sky. Cut a white piece of bulletin board paper to staple along the bottom of the board to represent snow decorated with snow-covered trees. Another idea for this theme is to allow students to color their own pictures of hibernating animals, such as chipmunks or skunks, to hide behind the windows.

    Habitats

    • Use bulletin board borders to section off the bullletin board into four areas to represent four different habitats: the forest, the rainforest, the ocean and the desert. The background for each habitat could be a different color, such as blue for the ocean and light brown for the desert. Each habitat could be clearly labeled and decorated with plant life found there. One idea for this bulletin board is to have cloth adhesive attached to the board and to laminated animals from each habitat that students can practice matching. Another idea is to allow students to color animals from each habitat to decorate the board.

    Animal Life Cycles

    • Preschool students can learn about animal life cycles and how some animals go through a metamorphosis during development with a bulletin board displaying pictures of those animals and the stages they go through as they change. This board can include pictures of a tadpole in the water as it develops into a frog with legs on land. The board can also display a butterfly as it transforms from an egg to a full-grown butterfly.

    Dinosaurs

    • To help preschoolers learn about dinosaurs and fossils, decorate the background of the bulletin board with scenery depicting life during the time in which dinosaurs lived. There are several dinosaur crafts found at the Kinderplans site that could be created by students and then attached to the bulletin board or around it. Another way to teach students about dinosaurs using the bulletin board is to have pictures of dinosaurs on the board along with pictures of their tracks and skeletons.
