Christmas Bulletin Board Ideas for Preschool

As the Christmas holiday draws near each year, preschool classrooms begin to buzz with excitement. Children at this age still enjoy the magic of the season and indulge in the idea of Santa coming to visit them in a magical sleigh filled with wonderful toys. Translate your students' excitement for Christmas into a bulletin board, to hold their attention until the day arrives.
  1. The Good List

    • Young students are aware of the story of Santa's list of naughty and nice boys and girls. Use this concept to create a behavior-based bulletin board. Build the board with simple borders and at least one picture of Santa Claus. Create a large paper section resembling a scroll labeled "The Good List." Place each student's name on the paper, leaving space between names. Create a long list of good deeds and behaviors, for which the students can earn stars to put on the board. Each time a student performs one of the tasks, add a colored star sticker by his name. Include tasks such as sitting quietly during story time or picking up toys or crayons. Recognize acts of kindness. Keep the list positive and do not remove stars for bad behavior.

    Christmas Angels

    • Turn your entire class into angels for a Christmas-themed bulletin board. Have each student cut out an angel template. Glue each student's picture to the head area of an angel. Help the students write their names on the angels and glue the bodies into tubular shapes. Place the angels on the board, and add lyrics to Christmas songs such as "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "Angels, from the Realms of Glory." Give students a say in the board's title and lyrics by playing the songs for them and letting them vote on their favorite.

    Decorating the Tree

    • Create a Christmas tree for your classroom bulletin board. Begin with a plain cut-out Christmas tree on your board. Decorate the tree with projects created by the class. Design ornaments from small foam balls and colored glitters. Create gold paper cut-out stars. Let the students curl ribbons to add to the tree. Have students draw pictures of gifts they desire, and place those under the tree. Decorate small boxes as presents and staple them to the board. Add items to the tree daily until it is completely covered, just in time for the holiday vacation to begin.
