Plan your bulletin board around animals that live in cold weather climates, such as penguins, polar bears and walruses. Use cutout illustrations or realistic photos of each animal, and have fun with the background. Many winter animals are black or white, so use a bright blue background to help them stand out. Decorate with snowflakes or penguin crafts created by the preschoolers, and use the board to discuss winter, snow and unique habitats.
Look to your own environment to see how local animals survive over winter. Do they grow a thick coat, make a big nest or simply hibernate? Include pictures of local animals, graphics of different types of shelter and some specific facts about how the local animals survive in cold weather. Use this board to display shelter-based crafts done by the class, including houses, nests and other "home" inspired projects.
Look for cartoon images of animals doing winter activities, like building snowmen, skiing, ice skating and frolicking in the snow. Decorate your board with whimsical cutouts and pictures of the preschoolers participating in winter activities, just like the animals. Use these ideas if your lesson plan involves winter safety, clothing or activity lessons.
