Decide on the location of the birthday board within the classroom. This can be, but is not limited to, an existing bulletin board. Any wall space can accommodate a birthday board. Ideally, the space should be visible from all corners of the classroom and be at eye-level for the children. Proper placement of birthday boards in the classroom is an important element in classroom design, according to the Kaplan website.
Select a theme for the birthday board. The possibilities are limitless and each teacher can express their creativity through this venue. A simple birthday cake with each child's name and birthday on a candle is but one example. The theme can be seasonal ranging from a basket of apples in the fall, snowflakes in the winter or beach pails in the summer. Whatever the theme, each child needs to be represented individually.
Cut out all of the pieces for the birthday board from construction paper using scissors. Use the markers to write each child's name and birthday on a separate cutout. If more than one child has the same name, use last initials. Remember to include the birth year, which is a crucial element in the birth date.
Decorate each piece using glue, glitter and sequins. Feel free to add any embellishments you have available. The goal is to make the board bright, festive and celebratory.
Install the birthday board in the chosen location using a stapler. Lay the pieces out on a flat surface first to get a visual idea of how you want it to look on the wall. Staple each piece on the wall until the board is complete. Optionally, you can add a border to the board using prepared borders purchased at a teacher supply store.
