Lay five sheets of paper out with the short ends touching. Tape them together using clear tape. Draw or write whatever you want on the paper, starting at the far left and moving right.
Set an empty paper towel tube on the far-right edge of the papers. Roll the paper around the tube slightly, about halfway around. Tape the paper securely to the tube
Fasten the second paper towel tube to the left end of the papers.
Roll one tube up so the paper wraps tightly around it. Stop when you reach the center. Move to the other side of the scroll, and roll the second tube up until it reaches the center point.
Cut a piece of butcher paper about 3 feet wide and approximately 10 inches high.
Crumple the butcher paper carefully, wadding it up in sections, then smoothing it out. Work the paper until it is soft and wrinkly.
Make a cup of black tea using a teabag. Squeeze all the excess water out the tea bag, then rub it lightly over the wrinkled paper. Dampen the paper slightly with the tea bag to highlight the wrinkles, turn the paper to parchment color and create spots and small stains. Allow the paper to dry completely.
Stand at the kitchen sink with a lit candle set in a candle holder in it. Hold the edge of the scroll paper over the candle, burning the edges slightly. Blow out the flame immediately. Repeat around the edges of the paper to create a tattered, worn look.
Paint or stain two 1-inch wooden dowels and four dowel end caps. Let them dry completely. Glue the end caps onto the dowel ends using wood glue and allow them to dry.
Tape each end of the scroll paper to the wooden dowels. Roll the paper tightly around the dowels until they meet in the center. Tie the scroll with a colorful ribbon to keep it from unrolling until you need it.
