How to Decorate Classroom Walls for Christmas

Teachers often use the classroom walls to teach new skills as well as make the room warm and inviting for students. Seasons, such as Christmas, are examples of themes teachers may use when choosing classroom decorations. A Christmas theme can incorporate the festivity of the season with educational objectives that correlate to the season.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw snowflakes between 2 and 8 inches across on loose-leaf paper. These will serve as the templates for a snowflake tablecloth or wall hanging. Slide a template under a sheer white organza tablecloth, or use a thin white sheet for an inexpensive alternative. Trace the snowflake with craft glue. Remove the template and cover the glue with silver glitter. Continue tracing snowflake patterns on the tablecloth to create the effect you like. Let dry and shake off excess glitter. Place the tablecloth across the top of a table or low bookshelf or hang on the wall.

Hang a sheet of festive wrapping paper on the wall. Gather Christmas cards from previous years, removing personal messages if necessary. You may also collect the new cards you receive from students. Hang the Christmas cards on the wall as decorations.

    • 3

Copy 25 Christmas images onto thin paper. You may also use translucent cellophane images purchased from a craft or educational store. Tape the images on the window. Cover each image with black construction paper or other paper that you cannot see through. This creates a large Advent calendar. Lift the covering for each day leading up to Christmas.

Draw and cut stocking shapes from felt. Use a variety of colors for a more vivid display. You may also purchase small inexpensive stockings from a dollar store. Allow the students to decorate and write their names on the stockings. Hang decorative ribbon across the wall by attaching the ends with tacky putty or staples. You may also tie the ribbon to existing nails on the wall. Hang the stockings on the ribbon by using an awl and poking a hole through the felt and tying thin ribbon through the hole to tie onto the large ribbon. Stapling the stockings on to the ribbon is a quick alternative, but will make it more difficult to remove them.
