How to Decorate a Classroom for Fairy Tales

Fairy tales are a part of childhood that can lead to a lifetime love of reading. "Snow White," "Cinderella" and "Beauty and the Beast" are timeless tales with a happy ending that are portrayed in books and movies, embellished with music and made into dolls. Encourage your class to read, and remind the pupils that the best childhood movies and the classic fairy tales started life as a book. Decorate your classroom in a fairy tale theme to help your students begin their reading adventures.

Instructions

    • 1

Get every pupil involved. Art should be a part of every curriculum and children love to see their work displayed on the classroom walls.

    • 2

Encourage your students to participate by bringing in any costumes or dress-up materials they may have that pertain to the fairy tale theme.

    • 3

Ask each child to dress in his or her choice of costumes. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella with her Prince Charming and Little Red Riding Hood are all ideas to try.

    • 4

Have each child lie on a length of white butcher paper that is long enough to fit his body. Trace around each child -- even the spaces between the fingers. Supply markers and crayons and instruct each student to color herself on the paper as her favorite fairy tale character.

    • 5

Arrange the paper characters on your classroom walls and embellish the display with cut-out trees, castles and large pages depicting the stories you've re-created.
