How to Decorate Classroom Doors for School Spirit

Schools often unite around sporting events, homecomings or other annual celebrations. Students from all grades can conjure school spirit and pride by participating in a variety of activities. Door decorating is a way to display school spirit to anyone passing through the halls and can even rally the school in a friendly competition. Involve students as much as possible by asking for input on door themes and displaying their work on the door.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the entire door with paper by measuring the door and cutting the paper to size. Attach the paper with heavy duty tape, like duct or packing tape. Choose a neutral color that will complement the door decorations, such as white or black, or use school colors.

    • 2

Measure and cut a second piece of paper, in a contrasting color, to the height of the door and about half the width of the door. Cut a ladder shape from the paper, ensuring one rung for each game of the season.

    • 3

Write each opposing team's name on a rung with marker, starting with the first game on the bottom rung and working your way up. For example, if the first game of the season is to be played versus the Wildcats, write "Wildcats" on the bottom ladder rung.

    • 4

Attach the ladder to the center of the door with tape.

    • 5

Decorate the remaining parts of the door. Place students' artwork, like spirit ribbons with players' names or school pennants, around the perimeter.

    • 6

Keep track of wins and losses by noting them on the ladder rungs with marker or create homemade pom poms from tissue paper to mark the wins.
