How to Cite NPR in APA

American Psychological Association citation, also known as APA style citation, is typically used to cite sources for social sciences. There are two different ways to cite a National Public Radio (NPR) broadcast in APA format. The first way is to cite in text, and the second is to cite at the end of the article. Both have to be in place for the citation to be exact and for plagiarism in an essay to be avoided.

Instructions

  1. Cite an NPR broadcast in APA format

    • 1

Type the proper citation in the text of the essay at the end of the sentence or paragraph that is paraphrased or quoted. For example if the citation is from an NPR broadcast, at the end of the sentence you would cite it like this (NPR Producer, 2011).

    • 2

Type the citation at the end of the paper beginning with the producer. For example, if the executive producer's name is Stephen Jones, it will be cited:

      Jones, Stephen (Executive Producer).

    • 3

Type the date of the broadcast after the producer's name. It is in this format:

      (2011, June 24).

    • 4

Type the title of the broadcast cited. It should be underlined and capitalized following capitalization rules as you would a book. An example:

The Title of the Show Goes Here.

    • 5

Type the city in which the broadcast originated. For NPR broadcasts, the city is typically New York City or Washington DC. If it's both, you separate them with an "and." In the citation, type the city and finish it with a colon. An example:

      New York City:

    • 6

Type the call letters of the station or the name of the station that was broadcasting the show. For example:

      National Public Radio.
