How to Cite a College Website in APA Style

APA style provides numerous guidelines for all aspects of writing a paper. When following APA guidelines it is also important to follow the proper format for citing references. The guidelines for citing a college website are similar to those for citing books and other publications, but include references to the site's URL as well as the date on which you accessed the website, as it is possible the site's contents could change in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the name of the author last name first, followed by a comma and their first initial followed by a period. If an author is not listed, begin with the title of the web page.

    • 2

Type a space and type the publication date using the "Year, Month Day" if possible. Enclose the date in parentheses. If no date is available, type "(n.d.)" without the quotes to indicate no date was available.

    • 3

Type a space and type the web page title in italics, followed by a period. If you already typed the web page title in place of the author's name, skip this step.

    • 4

Type a space and type "Retrieved" followed by a space and include the full date on which you retrieved the article followed by a comma.

    • 5

Type a space and type "from" followed by a space and add the full URL of the website. The final format should look like this:

      Last, F. (2005, January 1). Website Title. Retrieved February 10, 2010, from http://www.example.com
