National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) summer research programs provide opportunities for teachers to experience firsthand environmental issues related to the oceans of the world. Participating teachers have several NOAA research ships and study programs to choose from such as the oceanographic research vessel Miller Freeman. The ship's mission is to conduct research into how the creatures of the sea interact with the living environments of the world's oceans. Teachers then are able to bring knowledge gained back to students and inspire them to seek careers in the marine science disciplines.
