Undergraduate psychology majors who have an interest in working in counseling can apply to Pace University's Undergraduate Psychology Summer Internship Program. The unpaid, six- to eight-week internship program places up to four students at a counseling center at Pace's New York City campus. The counseling center provides the Pace community with individual and group counseling, along with outreach services. Summer psychology interns participate in several research projects, including library research, report writing and database management. These projects help hone the research skills needed for graduate study in the field. Additionally, summer psychology interns attend seminars on the graduate application process and careers in psychology. Applicants submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) along with a cover letter and one recommendation letter. Finalists must complete a personal interview before selections are announced.

The University of Utah's Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) in Psychology is sponsored by a training grant from the National Institute of Mental Health and is open to bachelor's and master's degree candidates. The internship, which lasts eight to ten weeks, provides participants with extensive research training. Students work with faculty mentors to carry out experiments, attend research meetings and collect and analyze data in the student's area of research. A professional development seminar exposes students to researchers in psychology subspecialties, such as developmental, cognitive and social psychology, and covers topics such as applying to doctoral programs and presenting research papers. Students have an opportunity to present a research project while in the program, and also practice taking the Graduate Record Examination. Participants in the SROP-Psychology program receive a stipend of $3,000 for undergraduates or $4,000 for graduate students, as of 2010. They also receive a travel voucher and room and board on the University of Utah campus.
