Verify your eligibility prior to registering for the GED. All applicants must presently not be attending school, be at least 17 years of age and provide an official withdrawal letter from the last school attended.
Purchase GED test books and study guides to prepare for the exam. Check the local library or bookstores near your home. You must pass the Constitution test through your GED class or at the Regional Office of Education before being eligible to register for the GED test. Send test verification to the Regional Office of Education if you have passed the test at any Illinois high school. Free GED classes are available at Lewis and Clark Community College, Southwestern Illinois College or Venice Lincoln Technical Center.
Visit the Regional Office of Education and complete GED test registration between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Bring a valid Illinois driver's license or state-issued ID and the $50 testing fee (as of November 2010). You will be given your testing facility location, as well.
Arrive at your designated testing site at 8.m sharp on the second Saturday of the month. Bring your ID and registration application. Complete the GED test. Test takers must achieve an overall passing score of 2250 to receive the GED. It will take up to three weeks to get your test results.
