How to Obtain a GED in PG County, Maryland

Having a GED enables you to fulfill education requirements set by employers and to seek opportunities offered to those with a high school degree or an equivalent. A GED allows you to continue your education as well, because it is accepted by most universities in the United States. The GED test consists of five different areas: writing, reading, social studies, math and science. Prince George County, Maryland, offers all the resources needed to obtain a GED.

      Determine if you are eligible. To take the GED exam in the state of Maryland, you must be at least 16 years old and have been a Maryland state resident for at least three months at the time you take the test.

      Take a GED prep class to prepare for the test, though this is not required. According to the Maryland Adult Literacy Resource Center website, Prince George's Community College offers both pre-GED and GED preparation courses.

      Take a GED practice test online. This will give you insight into the types of questions and material that will be covered in the real exam. Review the material you do not feel comfortable with, and retake the practice test as many times as you need.

      Fill out a "GED Test Application" found on the Maryland Adult Literacy Resource Center's website. Mail it in, and you will receive a test date by the the end of the fifth month after you sent it in.

      Pass the GED exam. The state of Maryland requires a minimum score of 410 on each test or 2250 on the full test battery to pass the exam, according to the American Council on Education website.
