Check that you meet all the requirements to take the GED in Maryland. The test-taker must be a resident of Maryland, withdrawn from high for at least three months and at least 16 years old. High school graduates or those currently enrolled in high school are not eligible for the GED.
Print out the GED and fill out the necessary information, including your name, Social Security number and birth date. The GED application requires a signature and stamp from your former school. You also need a copy of your Maryland driver's license, current official Maryland learner's permit, official Maryland ID card issued by the Motor Vehicle Administration or a current active duty military ID card.
Bring the completed form and registration fee to a nearby GED testing facility or mail the form to the GED testing office in Baltimore as indicated on the application. As of April, 2011, the registration fee is $45, payable by check or money order. You also need proof of identity and residency. The State of Maryland provides a list of facilities and hours of operation in the application.
Write down the date of your GED exam on a calendar and keep a reminder. Begin studying with tutors, GED preparation books and practice tests. Public libraries often provide study help; check your local library for more information. The Maryland Adult Literacy Resource Center has free online GED prep courses.
Call the GED Office at 410-767-0538 if you do not receive an admittance card prior to your requested test date. This card ensures that you are successfully scheduled for the testing date on the application.
Go to the testing facility 30 to 60 minutes before the time of the test. In case of parking issues, arrive early. Bring one of the required forms of identification.
Take the test. Complete all sections and guess at any question you may not know, as wrong answers are not counted in your score. Scores range from 200 to 800 on each subject section. To pass the exam, you need an overall score of 2,050. You may retake the exam as many times as necessary until you pass.
