The University of Massachusetts in Boston offers several different nursing programs.The traditional option results in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This program requires serious study of both theoretical and clinical aspects of nursing. It also requires a total of eight semesters over a minimum of 2 1/2 years of study. The accelerated option also results in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing but only requires 15 months to complete. You may also earn your nursing degree through an online format. This process does require three visits to campus. Out-of-state students can make other arrangements to meet these requirements.
The Massachusetts General Hospital Institute has six nursing programs available. Two are intended for students with no prior nursing education or experience. The remaining four are advanced, post-professional degree programs. You can receive a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 14 months through the accelerated program. This offers hands-on clinical experience specifically designed for the shortened program. The Master of Science in Nursing will allow you to become a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist and can be completed in six semesters. The post-professional programs, allow a student who is already a registered nurse to attain the role of nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist. The successful student can also obtain a doctorate of nursing practice.
Northeastern's nursing school offers multiple programs. These programs help the student attain their desired position, from nurse anesthetist to nurse practitioner as well as administrative positions. The nursing undergraduate program can last from four- to -five years. The master's program may be completed within two years on a full-time basis once the undergraduate degree has been earned.
Boston College's William F. Connell School of Nursing offers undergraduate, master's and doctorate programs. The master's program opens the door for a career as a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist. The doctorate program gives the student a chance to study various aspects of the profession from a research, teaching or leadership point of view.
