Trade schools, also called vocational schools, provide students with skills in trades such as carpentry, metalworking and a variety of other practical professions rather than a liberal arts university degree. These schools train individuals with specific skill that they will use in their vocation for the rest of their careers. Trade schools are generally post-secondary education; however, they can occasionally take the place of the last few years of high school. The school provides a variety of associate in specialized technology degrees, from working with wood as the main vocational draw to others where design technology is studied.

    Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center

    • By teaching both high school students and graduates for over 45 years, the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center has earned a reputation for high standards and quality of education. College credit can even be earned at the center in order for those individuals who may require university degrees after their training to be prepared for undergraduate studies. The school has partnered with the Bureau of Career and Technical Education to provide the highest quality of programs and vocational classes. With several areas of study, from the computer/technical department to the creative studies department, CWCTC offers a wide range of classes. Located in New Stanton, Pennsylvania, the school is about a 50 minute drive from Pittsburgh.

    Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center

    • Offering 16 different programs as well as a variety of English, computer and math remediation, Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center provides nationally recognized certifications and regionally recognized classes. According to EWCTC, its graduates have a high success rate, with "95% going directly to work, post-secondary education and/or the military" after graduation. Programs range from Cabinetry to Welding to Culinary Arts to Health Occupation Technology.The school is located in La Trobe, about an hour drive from the city of Bedford, Pennsylvania.

    Mon Valley Career & Technology Center

    • According to Mon Valley Career & Technology Center, its mission is to "enhance the career opportunities of students by developing their career, technical and academic skills to prepare them for the demands of business and industry." The center covers a wide variety of subjects and certifications ranging from auto collision repair and computer programming to culinary arts, cosmetology and masonry. Located in North Belle, the school is about 45 minutes from the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
