Oklahoma Technology Schools

Oklahoma recognizes that technology education is important to the ever-changing employment structure of the state. Oil and gas, construction and manufacturing all showed economic gains, according to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education oversees a statewide system of 57 career and technology schools. In addition, private technology schools offer a wide range of courses.
  1. Oklahoma Technical College -- Tulsa

    • Oklahoma Technical College offers courses in automotive mechanics, technology, diesel and parts, and welding technology. It also has a course for barbers. In addition to the Associate in Occupational Science degrees offered, all disciplines prepare students for state certification exams. Classes are on a monthly rotating schedule. Applicants for admission must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Books and tools are included in the tuition and financial aid is available.

    Francis Tuttle Technology Center -- Oklahoma City

    • Career training programs, adult and career development and continuing education courses are all available at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. Thirteen career training programs are offered, with the information technology department expanding to keep up with emerging technologies. In addition, special training programs have been initiated, including advanced manufacturing and orthotics. Start dates for courses rotate throughout the year. Grants, loans, scholarships and agency funding are available.

    Metro Technology Centers -- Oklahoma City

    • With five campuses and 80 career programs, Metro Technology Centers also offer short-term and online courses. Fourteen career programs are available, all with extensive sub-disciplines for furthering a student's career choices. Admission requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, or passing an assessment test. Full-time students can apply for grants, loans, veterans' assistance or tuition waver programs.

    Autry Technology Center -- Enid

    • As one of Oklahoma's five original vocational-technical schools, Autry has been offering classes since 1967. Ten disciplines, from architecture and construction to transportation, are offered. Most of the full-time courses are open to high school juniors and seniors in addition to adults. Full-time programs follow a fall-spring semester schedule while individual courses are offered throughout the year. Online programs are also available. Students can apply for financial aid and scholarships. The school's career services department helps prepare students for job interviews.
