Engineering Technology Schools

There are hundreds of engineering technology schools spread across the country in different universities and colleges. These schools offer programs in different specialties of engineering technology, such as civil engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology and general engineering technology. When researching an engineering technology school, students should see whether the institution is accredited by a reputable organization, such as ABET or not.
  1. Civil Engineering Technology Schools

    • Civil engineering technology merges the field of civil engineering with engineering technology. The program emphasizes different areas, such as surveying, structure development and construction operations. This program also covers practical applications of engineering tools in construction and structure design. Old Dominion University's School of Engineering and Technology and University of Akron's Community and Technical College offer this program.

    Electrical Engineering Technology Schools

    • Electrical engineering technology offers courses from two different fields: electrical systems technology and computer engineering technology. This program prepares students for entry level jobs in the electronics, airlines and IT industries, and develops skills required to tackle practical problems. Students who complete a bachelor's program in this specialty from an ABET accredited institution, such as Old Dominion University, are also eligible for the Fundamentals of Engineering examination. Alabama University's School of Engineering Technology also offers this program.

    Mechanical Engineering Technology Schools

    • Mechanical engineering technology programs teach students to tackle mechanical issues. They involve practical training on the usage of mechanical and technical tools and processes in the field. The program also covers some courses involving robotics and computerized manufacturing. Arizona State University's College of Technology and Innovation and Alabama University offer this program.

    General Engineering Technology Schools

    • The general engineering technology program adopts courses from a variety of engineering technology fields, such as computer engineering technology, industrial engineering technology and more. The program prepares students for taking on practical problems in different areas, such as quality management, facilities management, network administration and plant manufacturing. Old Dominion University and Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology offer this program.
