Christian Colleges or Universities

Followers of the Christian religion have access to universities and colleges throughout the United States that are affiliated with Christian denominations. All of these schools are private institutions, due to separation of church and state laws. In addition to academic programs, Christian universities and colleges offer religious organizations and Bible studies classes. You might also have chances to participate in foreign missions through the schools.
  1. Presbyterian

    • Belhaven University, in Mississippi's state capital city, Jackson, is a four-year private liberal arts institute. This Presbyterian university was founded as an all-girls school in 1883 and became coeducational in 1954. While Belhaven has a heavy Presbyterian influence, the university operates independently of the church.

      Founded in 1958, St. Andrew's Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., is a four-year institute of higher learning. The college is the result of a merger between Flora Macdonald College and Presbyterian Junior College. Three undergraduate degrees are available: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts. The school is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA.

    Catholic

    • Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., was founded in 1856. For the 2010-2011 school year, "U.S. News & World Report" rated Seton Hall number 136 out of all universities in the United States. This university's most popular degrees, according to the magazine, are International Relations & Affairs, Finance and Biology.

      Situated in Spokane, Wash., Gonzaga University is a four-year private institute and was founded in 1887. The university is on the banks of the Spokane River and within 20 minutes of the city's downtown district. Gonzaga is home to the Gonzaga University Law School, College for Arts & Sciences and Jundt Art Museum.

    Baptist

    • The main campus of Dallas Baptist University, or DBU, is in southern Dallas, Texas, and is on the northern shores of Mountain Creek Lake. Satellite campuses in Texas are in Frisco, Hurst and Mansfield. This university was founded in 1898. Christian-influenced organizations at DBU include the Baptist Student Ministry and Christians in the Visual Arts.

      One of the oldest Baptist universities in the United States is Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. The university was founded in 1834 by the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. This four-year university features the Wake Forest School of Law, School of Medicine and School of Divinity.

    Methodist

    • The University of Denver in Denver, Colo., is one of the oldest universities in the Mountain West Region; the university was founded in 1864. This university is affiliated with the United Methodist Church; the original name of the university was Colorado Seminary. The University of Denver is home to the Daniels College of Business and Sturm College of Law.

      Located in greater Chicago, Ill., DePauw University is a four-year Methodist school and was founded in 1837 as Indiana Asbury University. The university's radio station, WGRE, offers 24-hour Internet broadcasting. DePauw hosts live music and theatrical performances at Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts.
