Methodist colleges and universities in the north-central part of the United States are in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, South Dakota, Indiana, Minnesota and Illinois. A couple of these schools include Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill.
Cornell is a private, liberal arts college with a unique program known as "One Course at a Time," in which students focus on one class project for three-and-half weeks before moving to the next class. Students can worship on campus at the Allee Chapel, counsel with the staff chaplain and participate in a variety of student-led, faith-based organizations.
Illinois Wesleyan is also a liberal arts school with an enrollment of nearly 2,100. There are many campus religious groups, including for the Methodist, Jewish and Hindu faiths as well as a multi-denominational ministry. The Evelyn Chapel is found on campus and holds regular Sunday services and a Wednesday morning gathering.

Boston University has more than 32,000 students. The private research university's alumni boasts six Nobel Prize winners. The on-campus Marsh Chapel offers evening prayer on Wednesdays and a non-denominational worship service on Sundays.
Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas are home to Methodist colleges and universities in the south-central United States. These include Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb., and Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Nebraska Wesleyan is home to about 2,000 students. The university minister holds chapel every Thursday afternoon. Students can also intern with the ministries team, take part in service-learning trips and volunteer to tutor at a local Methodist church.
The private Southern Methodist University ranks in "U.S. News and World Report's" top tier of colleges. The university includes the Perkins School of Theology, one of only five United Methodist theological schools. The Perkins Chapel is the main worship center on campus and holds Sunday services.
Southeastern Methodist schools are found in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and Virginia. A few well-known schools in this region are Duke University in Durham, N.C., and Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
Duke is a private research university with a top-ranked undergraduate program. The Duke Chapel was built in the 1930s in the Collegiate Gothic style and is the location for Monday morning prayer and Sunday morning worship services. The chapel is near the Duke Divinity School where students can earn degrees in theology, divinity, ministry and Christian studies and practice.
Emory is a leading research institute, known especially for its work on HIV and AIDS. The Candler School of Theology welcomes students who want to earn master's and doctoral degrees in divinity and theology. The Cannon Chapel holds daily worship services, Bible study, prayer times and meetings for those practicing a variety of religions.
There are fewer Methodist schools in the western United States. They are found in Alaska, Montana, California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. These schools include the University of Denver in Denver, Colo., and the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.
The University of Denver is a private doctoral and research institute with an enrollment of 11,600. The school was founded as the Colorado Seminary and still offers a religious studies department and a joint Ph.D. program in religious and theological studies in the Iliff School of Theology.
The University of Puget Sound is a liberal arts college with an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio. U-Meth is the United Methodist campus ministry, and the school has ministries for Baptist, Muslim, Catholic and other students. The Kilworth Memorial Chapel offers an interfaith worship service on Sunday evenings.
