Emergency Medical Technicians, or EMTs, are traditionally the first on the scene in a medical emergency. Specialized training is necessary for this career path, and there are many college programs in Minnesota that prepare students for careers as EMTs or paramedics.     • Anoka Technical College in Anoka, Minnesota, offers certificate and diploma programs in Emergency Medical Services, or EMS. The EMS program includes curriculum for different levels of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and prepares program graduates for many different careers in emergency rooms, urgent care, ambulance services and 911 dispatchers, among others. Anoka Technical College utilizes national DOT curriculum that is approved by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board (EMSRB). The course includes lab and lecture components, and provides students with clinical patient-care experience. Upon completion of the program, graduates can take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians skill and written examination to earn national registration and state of Minnesota registration as an EMT.

    • Students at St. Cloud Technical and Community College in St. Cloud, Minnesota, can earn an associate's degree in paramedicine.
