The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at the University of Minnesota serves over 300 drama students each semester, according to theatre.umn.edu. Students get a chance to learn their craft with the support of several other actors, singers and dancers.
Coursework for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts includes instruction in physical presentation techniques, directing, musicals, onstage storytelling and puppet shows. More advanced students learn how to create costumes, design stage lighting and dabble in some film acting and media production as well.
Acting students may also participate in available performance opportunities. Each summer, the University of Minnesota puts on the Minnesota Centennial Showboat, which gives student actors the opportunity to get paid for performing. The university also encourages students to participate in presentations offered at over 200 theater locations in the Twin Cities.

Potential actors and actresses may earn the first half of their Bachelor's degree in performing arts at the Minneapolis Community & Technical College. According to the college, each instructor is equipped with a graduate degree in theatrical arts.
Program features include technical theatre, acting and directing. Students may choose an area to emphasize in addition to learning fundamentals such as classical drama and theatrical history. Students will also learn how to speak properly on stage, movement presentation, playwriting and stage design.

The Carleton College gives students the chance to put on large productions on campus and with cooperating, non-college theater entities. According to Carleton College, students learn technical acting, design and directing in addition to stage critique and classical literature.
Theater courses include beginner acting courses, stage lighting, vocal enhancement, puppetry, debate and stage combat in addition to Shakespearean drama, scene design, costume creation and directing. More advanced courses delve into playwriting, multimedia software as it relates to theater, cultural theater and history.
Graduating students earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in their major field after completing course curriculum at Carleton College.
