The Academy of Learning was a winner of the "Saint John Telegraph Journal" 2009 Reader's Choice Award. Founded in 1987 in Thornhill, Ontario, this trade school has spread into eight Canadian provinces and the Northwest Territories as well as gaining licensure from Saudi Arabia, the West Indies, Australia and the United States. The Academy of Learning's programs are offered in full- and part-time formats and include disciplines such as teacher's assistance, early childhood education, health care, accounting, business, customer service, web/graphic design and information technology.

The Academy of Hair Design offers two different programs. The Hairstyling Course and is a 44-week program in which 1,600 hours of hairstyle training are conducted on people and mannequins. Classes in this program include thermal styling, cells and anatomy, skin and its disorders as well as finger waving. The second program is called High School Co-Op, which is a cooperative education program with high school students. This is a seven-week program in which high school students learn certain hairstyles by performing them on mannequins and clients.
