New Hampshire Trade Schools

In addition to four-year universities like the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College, New Hampshire is home to a number of trade schools. Consisting of both private and public institutions, these institutions grant certificates, diplomas and associate degrees in a number of fields, including cosmetology, construction and health care. New Hampshire's trade schools are found in locations throughout the state, giving residents access to a program not far from home.
  1. NHTI Concord's Community College

    • Established in 1965, NHTI Concord's Community College is a public, two-year institution with 5,000 students. Courses average 15 to 20 students in size and focus on more than 60 programs of study, including hospitality management, business administration, information technology, machining, nursing, dental hygiene and assisting, radiation therapy, medical transcription and paralegal studies. Courses are offered during day and evening hours to accommodate the schedules of working adults. Federal and state financial aid are available for qualified students. Housing, health care and dining facilities area provided on campus, and a child care center is offered for students who are also parents. Crisis and personal counseling services, tutoring and job placement assistance are available for all students. The school sponsors one dozen athletic programs, and intramural teams and a number of student organizations are also featured at NHTI.

    Keene Beauty Academy

    • Although it has changed hands over the years, Keene Beauty Academy has served as a private cosmetology trade school in southeastern New Hampshire since 1964. The school carries the accreditation of the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences. The school's programs include cosmetology, manicuring and aesthetics (skin care). Depending on the area of specialization, training requires 300 to 1,500 hours of study. Courses start at least six times per year and are offered on a full-time basis. A full-service salon is located at the beauty academy, allowing students to gain hands-on experience working with paying customers. The school participates in federal grant and loan programs and hosts competition and special social events for students.

    Lakes Region Community College

    • Located in central New Hampshire in the town of Laconia, Lakes Region Community College is a public, two-year trade school with approximately 1,400 students. The school's two-year associate degree programs include automotive repair, culinary arts, electric power, fire technology, marine repair, nursing, office technology management and restaurant management. Students can also pursue certificates that require shorter courses of study in fields like institutional food service, network administration, medical transcription and website development. Day and evening classes are offered as well as a number of online and video distance education courses. In addition to traditional federal and state financial aid programs, the college offers work study opportunities. Mentoring, tutoring and career counseling are available for all students.
