  1. Nevada Career Institute

    • Nevada Career Institute, a private, for-profit school, is located north of downtown Las Vegas. The school grants career certificates in medical assisting, medical office administration, massage therapy and surgical technology. The latter course of study carries the approval of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Programs include laboratory practice or internships that last between one and four months in health care settings. The college participates in federal loan and grant financial programs to help students offset the cost of tuition. The college helps students with job searches, resume writing and interview preparation.

    Apollo College

    • Apollo College is a private, for-profit career-training school with locations throughout the western United States, including in Las Vegas and and Reno. Both Nevada campuses offer a state-approved two-year nurse training program. Students can also earn an associate degree in respiratory therapy from the school. Both programs include clinical rotations in hospitals and medical centers. Federal financial aid loans and grants are available for eligible students.

    Great Basin College

    • Located in the rural northeastern Nevada city of Elko, Great Basin College is a public trade school with about 3,500 students, approximately 78 percent of which studied only part-time during the 2008-2009 school year, according to the school's website. The school offers associate degrees and certificates in several fields, including agriculture, broadcast technology, office technology, Web administration, information science, medical transcription, radiology technology, corrections, diesel technology, electrics, fire science, millwright technology and welding. The school also offers online distance education and credit for work experience. In addition to state and federal loans and grants, Great Basin College offers work study opportunities, institutional scholarships and veterans' benefits for qualified students. The school provides academic advising, peer mentoring, student housing and job placement assistance. The school also operates a low-cost child care center for students who are parents.

    Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las Vegas

    • The Le Cordon Bleu College began in 19th-century Paris. The Las Vegas branch of the college opened in 2003 and offers programs in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts and hospitality and restaurant management. All students can work in the school's Café Bleu, an on-site restaurant, which is open to the public. Students also participate in short internships at restaurants or hotels. Eligible students can take advantage of federal financial aid programs, work study, institutional scholarships and private loans.
