The two-year welding program provides students with knowledge and skills in welding techniques and metal cutting. Students learn the proper tools and equipment needed to become effective in the field of metal fabrication, as well as the mathematics needed in a shop setting. All classes comply with American Welding Society standards. Upon completing coursework, students continue their studies or enter the workforce.
Students attending Advanced Technology Institute learn skills necessary to be a licensed maritime welder. Courses consist of practical applications surrounding construction, equipment repair and steel structures. Students receive instruction within a classroom setting as well as a laboratory setting. The laboratory provides an opportunity for students to become proficient at their skill prior to joining the workforce. Students learn standards and safety protocol used at repair shops and shipyards.
Buffalo State University offers classes focusing on applying learned metalworking techniques, including welding. Each class requires the student to fulfill a minimum amount of time in the studio perfecting their craft. Students must complete prerequisite courses before enrolling in welding classes. The required courses are Metalsmithing, Applied Jewelry Techniques, Introduction to Jewelry Making and Introduction to Design Two Dimensional I.
