Individuals interested in working as welders can take a 36-hour class at Rochester Works in Mt. Morris, New York, 45 minutes from Rochester. The course includes 440 hours of theoretical and practical study and experience in electric, arc, oxyacetylene, MIG and TIG welding. Students learn to cut and fabricate aluminum, steel and stainless steel. The school assists students in obtaining internships and subsequent employment as welders, fabricators, pipe welders, arc welders, construction welders and and union apprentices. Students can earn bridge certification from the New York State Department of Transportation or American Welding Society certification.
