This language Institute, named after the famous Renaissance artist/engineer, is situated in the Santa Croce district. The majority of students at Istituto Michelangelo come from different countries in Europe, followed closely by North American students. Other international students come from Latin America, while a small percentage of Asian, African, New Zealand and Australian students also attend classes. Students range from the age of 16 to 50 and beyond, with the greatest number of students in the 19 to 24 age group. Courses offered include standard, intensive, super-intensive, one-on-one, specialization, professional and senior courses (designed for learners over the age of 50). This language school is located in the heart of Florence, just one kilometer west of the Santa Maria Novella train station and a five-minute walk from the Santa Maria Del Fiore Cathedral. Founded in 1977, the school has over 30 years of teaching experience and is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education. Courses at this school are recognized by many American colleges and universities, which is a benefit if you plan to take classes for college credit. Classes are limited to 12 students so that professors can give special attention to learners. Courses vary in length and may be as brief as two weeks for a general courses or as long as 48 weeks for an extended course.
Spirito Italiano Italian Language School opened in 2003 and is one of the smaller language schools in Florence. Marcello Ciao, School Director, opened the school with the intention of offering students a personalized language course that focuses mainly on conversation. Classes offered include group, one-on-one, combined (two students), cultural courses, on-line courses and even gastronomical courses. Accommodations such as a shared flat or host family can be arranged by Spirito Italiano by submitting a request at least one month prior to the start date of the course.
Located near the artistic center of Florence, Parola Italian School offers courses covering six different levels of Italian. Each of the six grammar levels require about one month to master. The school offers a wide variety of classes including group, individual, combined (group and combined lessons), Italian cooking, Italian drawing and adult courses. The school will place you in an appropriate grammar level course based on an informal Italian test on your first day of class.
