Make-Up Artist Schools in New York

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, make-up artists apply cosmetics to performers to reflect period, setting and situation of their role. Duties of a make-up artist include enhancing or altering the appearance of performers, working within budget limits and creating special effects using colors and materials that are safe on the skin. The state of New York requires all make-up artists to graduate from a cosmetology or esthetics program and be licensed.

    • Located in Rochester, New York, the Continental School of Beauty has an esthetics program for aspiring make-up artists. The program is 600 hours long and includes training in bacteriology, cosmetic chemistry, make-up techniques and paramedical esthetics. Program objectives include building a solid foundation of both technical and practical skills as well as educating students with lectures, demonstrations and hands-on experience. Graduates will be prepared to obtain licensing with the state board. Admissions requires applicants have a high school diploma or GED and meet for a personal interview with an admissions representative. Financial aid is available to qualified students.
