Phoenix, Arizona Apprenticeship Programs

A number of apprenticeship programs in Phoenix are registered with the State of Arizona Department of Education. Apprentices receive classroom instruction and on-the-job training for a specified training period, which varies among the different programs. Starting wages for apprentices are generally around 50 percent of a journeyman's earnings. These programs provide an opportunity for apprentices to earn while learning a trade.
  1. SW Carpenters Training Fund/AZ Carpenters Apprenticeship

    • This program is offered at three locations, including one in Phoenix. Apprentices are required to have reading and math skills at the 8th grade level or higher. The program consists of 16 weeks of classroom instruction and 5,360 hours of on-the-job training. No high school diploma is required. Apprentices earn money while training, receive college credit for their courses and a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

    Arizona Asbestos Workers Joint Apprenticeship and Training

    • This apprenticeship is a four-year program of classroom instruction and on-the-job training in the thermal insulation field. There are no minimum requirements listed for reading, math, language and writing skills, nor is a high school diploma or equivalent a prerequisite for the program. Occupations related to this apprenticeship include carpet installers, floor layers, floor sanders and finishers, hazardous materials removal workers and other construction-related professions.

    Arizona Roofing Industry Joint Apprenticeship Committee

    • This three-year program prepares apprentices for careers in the roofing industry. There are no minimum skill requirements listed for eligibility, nor is a high school diploma required. Apprentices earn a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

    Arizona Builders Alliance

    • The Arizona Builders Alliance offers several apprenticeship programs through its training center in Phoenix. Apprenticeships are offered in carpentry, craft training, electrical, form carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and sheet metal. These programs are between two and four years in length and include a minimum number of hours in classroom instruction and on-the-job training. The Arizona Builders Alliance has been operating state-approved apprenticeships programs since 1973.
