      Pima Medical Institute in Seattle has been around for more than 35 years. The Phlebotomy Technician program runs about three months including an externship. This program provides training in collecting and processing specimens as well as obtaining blood through venipuncture and micro collection techniques.

    Shoreline Community College

    • Feel a part of college life, if only for a short while.

      Shoreline Community College offers a certificate program that is completed in two quarters. It will cover the main techniques for drawing blood, handling samples and preparing samples. This program has a few prerequisites, possibly extending the time you will be in school. The prerequisites include Anatomy and Physiology or Medical Terminology. English 100 is required, and English labs are suggested for non-native speakers. One computer class is required and can be Beginning Keyboarding or Computer Applications. The final prerequisite, Human Relations in Business, rounds out the coursework before you begin your certificate program. Most people can finish these requirements in a single quarter.

    Aster Technology Institute

    • You'll understand everything about preventing infection.

      Each student at the Aster Technology Institute begins with anatomy, physiology and medical terminology classes. Their program is 12 weeks, including a four-week externship. Like all the other programs, it goes over the basics of blood work and sample preparation. The externship places you in a working environment to hone the skills you have learned over the program. You will complete the hands-on experience needed so you can go out and find a job as soon as your externship is finished.
