ASCLS (the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Services) approves certain educational programs for Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education (P.A.C.E) that meet quality content guidelines. Regional Medical Laboratory's phlebotomy offers one-day, six-credit-hour courses on blood draw techniques, medical terminology, hemolysis, clotting, patient identification, difficult draws, labeling, equipment and other related areas of study. This course is intended for health care workers such as nurses, nurse aides and laboratory technicians who have minimal knowledge of phlebotomy procedures. Employees of the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, may take this class for free.

    Seminole State College

    • Seminole State College offers a summer-only Phlebotomy Certificate training program. Students will learn blood draw techniques, laboratory and infection control safety, specimen processing and laboratory computer use during this two-week course of study. Following the completion of the on-campus classroom program, students must participate in a two- to three-week clinical practicum in an off-campus health care setting. All students who complete this program with a passing grade are eligible to apply for the Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) Certification examination offered through the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

    Platt College

    • Platt College, with six different campus options, offers a combined Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy program through the Allied Health Department. This 7.4-month program of study consists of specialized medical and phlebotomy courses for a total of 800 clock, and 55 credit, hours. Graduates will be prepared to work in doctors' offices, hospitals, laboratories or other medical settings as a lab assistant, medical assistant, or phlebotomy technician.

    Great Plains Technology Center

    • Adult students who wish to begin an entry-level career in phlebotomy can receive training at the Great Plains Technology Center. This 600-hour program of study will help the beginning phlebotomist to gain the necessary skills for entry-level employment in a doctor's office, laboratory or medical environment. Students must complete a clinical externship prior to graduation.
