Schools that Offer Digital Forensics Majors

Digital forensics is a discipline within forensic science that focuses on the investigation and recovery of evidence in computers and other digital devices. Graduates of a digital forensics program often work with law enforcement and government agencies. The Digital Forensics Association offers membership to digital forensics professionals which provides networking and continuing education opportunities.

    • Located in Burlington, Vermont, Champlain College offers a bachelor's degree program in computer forensics and digital investigation. The program is delivered 100 percent online and each course is offered in seven-week sessions. Courses in the program include cybercrime, investigative interviewing, computer and telecommunications, white-collar crime and computer network security. The online program requires students to have a computer with high-speed Internet access and up-to-date operating systems. Communication takes place through email, discussion boards and chat rooms.

    Bloomsburg University

    • Located in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg University offers a bachelor's degree in computer forensics that prepares graduates to work with law enforcement, homeland security and private security companies. The 120-credit program includes courses in computer forensic file systems, data mining, database design, fraud examination and computer networks. These courses teach students how to prevent and detect cybercrime. Students also learn about fraud examination, the nature of fraud and who commits fraud and why.

    DeVry University

    • DeVry University has more than 90 campuses across the country in states such as California, Texas, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Missouri, Minnesota, Utah and Washington. The university offers a bachelor's degree in justice administration with a specialization in digital forensics. Coursework covers topics in digital forensics, architecture and operating systems, connectivity and principles of information systems security. Coursework may also be accompanied by a lab, which allows students to apply theories in practical applications.

    Defiance College

    • Defiance College is located in Ohio and offers a Bachelor of Science in Digital Forensic Science that teaches students how to analyze, preserve and acquire digital evidence. Courses in the bachelor's degree program include computer security fundamentals, intrusion detection, criminal evidence and procedure, network forensics and fundamentals of computer networks. Students in the program have an opportunity to earn the CompTIA A+ certification. Opportunities are available for students to learn about forensics as it relates to computers, smart phones and other digital devices.
