Schools That Offer Graduate Degrees for Psychology Majors

Psychology undergraduates may want to pursue graduate studies. Plenty of schools across the country offer graduate programs, with some combining the master's and doctoral degree programs. A graduate degree will open up your career choices and opportunities for advancement.
  1. American University

    • Within the college of arts and sciences, you can earn a Master of Arts in psychology in either general psychology or a specialty track. In the social track, you focus on cognitive psychology and counseling. In the experimental track, you take a more scientific approach to psychology. If you take the general track, you can choose the non-thesis option for graduation.

    Ohio State University

    • Ohio State's psychology department offers a combined master's and doctoral program. While you don't have to have a bachelor's degree in psychology for admission, you must have fulfilled at least 14 semester hours in psychology. You need to complete a master's thesis during the program, which can be completed in five years. The program focuses on seven areas of study, including behavioral neuroscience, social psychology, mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

    Pepperdine University

    • You can choose from several graduate programs, including a master's in psychology or clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. There's also the option of receiving a doctor of psychology, a professional degree in clinical psychology. You can take advantage of professional development workshops meant to enrich learning even for people who have already earned a degree, too.

University of North Carolina Chapel Hill

    • UNC Chapel Hill's psychology department offers a dual behavioral neuroscience degree program. In this program, you can earn a doctorate in four to five years. The first two years of the degree are dedicated to taking course work and fulfilling research for a project. You must complete the requirements for a master's by the end of your second year. In the third year, you'll prepare a dissertation proposal and prepare the dissertation in your final years.
