Oklahoma State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine is Oklahoma's second and only other major medical school. The school was founded in 1972 in order to provide training for primary care physicians for the rural areas of Oklahoma. OSU's medical school offers students the opportunity to pursue a number of degree options including the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), a dual Dual D.O./M.B.A degree, a dual Dual D.O./M.S degree and a joint D.O/Ph.D. degree for those who desire to pursue careers in research. The flexibility of the OSU program makes it a good choice for students who might be unsure about what specific area of specialization they desire to pursue once admitted to medical school.
