The US Career Institute offers a massage therapy certification program to those over the age of 16. Correspondence between student and instructor is performed by email or website submission. According to the USCI, the course material is provided in an easy-to-learn, step-by-step method. The course first teaches the use of massage, followed by teaching specific muscle groups before lastly teaching practical application.

National Certificate Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork offers local courses throughout the United States. The NCBTMB website helps locate courses, and offers guidance and advice on becoming a massage therapist. After certification, the student is added to a national directory of certified massage therapists. The courses offered by the NCBTMB allow for hands-on training from local experts, as well as apprenticeship opportunities.

The American Massage Therapy Association or AMTA offers a variety of individually priced courses through their website. Each course earns a specific amount of credits. Once a student has sufficient credits for the level of massage therapist certification they seek, certification is issued. AMTA offers a demo course for potential students to try out the system before enrolling. AMTA allows students to learn the course material at their own pace, taking each class in the order they choose.
