Auto Body Technical Schools

Hailstorms, flying objects, traffic accidents and rust--these are just few of the ways that a vehicle can sustain damage. When that happens, a vehicle owner turns to auto body technicians to repair the damaged areas or parts, or do a body part replacement if need be. Technical schools across the United States offer formal programs for this profession, ranging from weeks-long certificate/diploma programs to two-year associate degrees.
  1. Automotive Training Center

    • The Automotive Training Center (ATC) has two campuses based in Philadelphia. The technical school offers two diploma programs: Collision Reconditioning Technology, designed for completion within 15 months, and Collision Repair Technology, a 20-month evening program. ATC students learn from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)-certified instructors. Subjects include the restoration of damaged vehicles (including metalworking), body and frame repair, painting and refinishing, and working with electrical, steering and suspension systems.

    Lincoln Group of Schools

    • With more than 40 campuses across the United States, the Lincoln Group of Schools--a collection of eight technical institutions--offers diplomas or associate degree programs in collision repair at five of its campuses. These campuses include the Lincoln Technical Institute in East Windsor, Connecticut; the Lincoln College of Technology in Illinois, Indiana and Texas; and the Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee. In these locations, auto body students learn from ASE-certified instructors about subject areas such as auto body construction, dent repair, surface preparation, welding and cutting. At the Texas location in particular, students get to work on race cars due to the school's involvement in the Grand Prairie racing scene.
