Scholarships in naval architecture are available in various parts of the world for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Naval architects are very much in demand by shipbuilding companies and government institutions. The growth of the shipbuilding industry has created many opportunities. Average earnings of a naval architect are estimated to be at $72,000 per year, as of 2010, with more than $100,000 for the more experienced.
  1. The Lloyd's Register Scholarship for Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture

    • The Lloyd's Register Scholarship for Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture is awarded by the University College London (UCL) for master's students in naval architecture and marine engineering. The scholarship is for €10,000 for a period of one year, or approximately $12,700, as of August 2010. Founded in 1826, UCL is one of the world's leading universities with multiple disciplines. At least 21 Nobel Prize winners have come from this community. Nearly 140 nationalities are enrolled in UCL, accounting for about 34 percent of its population.

    ASMI Naval Architecture Scholarship

    • The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) sponsors a scholarship in naval architecture for new full-time undergraduates working toward their Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture. The scholarship is open to all nationalities who are not in receipt of any other scholarship. Included is SD$7,200 per year for tuition fees (approximately $5,300, as of August 2010), SD$5,000 for travel, accommodations and living expenses for two months in Newcastle University in the United Kingdom (approximately $3,700), a computer and notebook allowance of SD$1,400 (approximately $1,000) and a yearly allowance of SD$7,200 (approximately $5,300). These benefits are for two years, assuming good and consistent academic performance.

    Technical University of Denmark Scholarship in Naval Architecture

    • A Ph.D. Scholarship in Naval Architecture is available at the Technical University of Denmark Department of Mechanical Engineering. The project involves the operation and design of large container ships. A master's degree in engineering is required, along with strong skills in naval architecture and ocean engineering. The Ph.D. student will be employed for three years under terms and conditions for all Ph.D. degree students of the university. Age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are not hindrances to acceptance.
