UMKC's Bloch School of Business Entrepreneurship Scholars Program prepares students to implement their venture concepts after graduation. The Launch Apprenticeship pairs students with faculty and business members in the community to create a business model for potential ventures. Students in the Scholars Program are required to enroll in a entrepreneurial skill-building and venture creation planning workshops, while maintaining an active membership in a student entrepreneurship club. Students participating in the program are eligible for full scholarships and initial funding from the $500,000 Venture Seed Fund.
The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAPP) was created in 1983 using grants from the National Endowments of the Arts. The UMKC School of Art & Art History sponsors students into the TAPP program where students are paired with master craftsmen to learn traditional artisan woodwork. The student studies under the master until they graduate into a master themselves and are able to teach the traditional art form to future students.
The UMKC Conservatory/Lyric Opera Young Artists Program collaborates between the university's Conservatory of Music and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. The program prepares the singers enrolled in a Master's, Doctoral, Performer's Certificate or Artist's Certificate degree program at the Conservatory for a professional operatic career. Apprentices have the opportunity to perform in two opera productions per year in the original language, along with workshops, premieres and outreach programs.
Students enrolled in an apprenticeship program have the opportunity to learn directly from a skilled professional. Hands on instructional training gives the student the ability to practice their skill or trade while being mentored. Students who complete an apprenticeship program will enter the workforce with practical skill and experience.
