Students in this program are expected to enroll in six credits per semester, which equates to two classes. Students can expect to spend three complete days per week on coursework and research related to their thesis. The University of Houston offers a Ph.D. program in social work that can be completed on a part-time schedule. For part-time students, the coursework portion of the program is designed to be completed in three years of academic study. Students who are enrolled in this doctoral program will advance their knowledge base of the practice of social work. Students who are taking this program on a part-time schedule will take between six and seven credits per semester and will take courses that include multivariate statistics, quantitative and qualitative research methods, philosophy of science, social science theories and theories of social practice work. Suffolk University offers a Ph.D. program in economics that can be completed on a part-time schedule. Students have a choice between four specializations that include international economics, public finance, econometrics and public choice. After students have selected their area of specialization, they must then choose two specializations within that area. Students must complete at least 16 courses in this program along with the dissertation research that lasts for three semesters. Students will take courses that include macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics. Students will also take cost benefit analysis and impact evaluation, economics of regulation, advanced public finance, economic thought and public choice, and advanced international monetary economics.
