Educational Grants for Navy Veterans

Numerous grants are available for U.S. Navy veterans to continue their college educations. The grants come in various monetary sizes and are available for a variety of specific majors, some of which influence job opportunities within the maritime field. In addition to providing an education for Navy veterans, some grants provide college financing for families of former service members.
  1. Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy Centennial Scholarship

    • Combat-wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are eligible for the Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy Centennial Scholarship.

      There are a couple of requirements for this scholarship: the applicant must have already received his or her associate degree and must be planning to apply his or her studies for a teaching credential. There are five scholarships available annually; each is worth $3,000.

    Joseph A. McAlinden Divers Scholarship

    • The Joseph A. McAlinden Divers scholarship is available for all Navy veterans and their family members, as well as active-duty naval officers. The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are studying oceanography, oceanic agriculture or aquaculture. Scholarships range from $500 to $3,000.

    Funds for Veterans Scholarship

    • The Funds for Veterans Scholarship was created for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The recipient must have served at least 60 days to be eligible for the scholarship. To receive the scholarship, a veteran must be enrolled full time at an accredited university.

    Individual State Scholarships for Naval Veterans

    • All 50 states have individual scholarships for veterans and their families. While specifics vary from state to state, most will pay for a veteran's full tuition; other states allow a stipend for each month that the veteran served in the Navy.
