Grants & Scholarships for Adult Students

Finding scholarship money can be difficult for non-traditional students, both because they often make too much money to qualify for need-based scholarships, and also because the majority of scholarships are awarded to traditional undergraduates. Fortunately, there are a number of associations that offer scholarships to adults who are returning to college after a hiatus in their education.
  1. AAIA Displaced Homemaker Scholarships

    • The Association on American Indian Affairs makes money available to adult men and women of Native American ethnicity through its Displaced Homemaker Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded in amounts of $1,500 per year and disbursed in increments of $750 per semester. In order to be eligible for this award, a student must submit an essay demonstrating that they would not be able to attend school without it due to family obligations. Students must also provide proof of one-quarter Indian blood and tribal enrollment. The annual application deadline is June 18. If you are interested, visit the AIAA website for more information.
