Grants for Nurses Working on a Master's Program

Students pursuing a master's degree program in nursing can find grant money to help pay for their studies. Grant money may be intended to attract future nursing faculty or for students pursuing a nursing specialty, such as oncology nursing.
  1. American Cancer Society

    • The American Cancer Society offers two-year grants for students pursuing a master’s degree in cancer nursing practice. The awards are for $10,000 each year for tuition and living expenses, and the deadline is each Feb. 1. Recipients must be registered nurses attending a U.S. institution accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, The institution must offer a master’s degree in nursing with integrated cancer nursing content. If the degree is not specific to cancer nursing, the student must demonstrate how cancer training will be acquired both in the classroom and clinical work. Applicants should have oncology experience.

    Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship and Living Expenses Grant

    • Students attending a graduate nursing program in Maryland may apply for the Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship and Living Expenses Grant. The deadline to apply is Aug. 1 for the fall semester, Dec. 1 for the spring semester, and May 1 for the summer semester. Students can be full-time or part-time students in a graduate nursing program that prepares students to become nursing faculty. Living expenses also may be covered up to $25,000 per year, based on need. The grant covers tuition and fees up to $13,000 per year and is renewable for a second year. After completing their education, recipients must work at a Maryland institution as a nursing faculty member for two years per year of funding for full-time students and one and a half years for each year of funding for part-time students.

    AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship

    • Students pursuing a master’s degree in nursing may apply for the AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship offered by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Students must be enrolled as an institution that is a member of the AACN and have a GPA of at least 3.25. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,500. The deadlines in 2010 are Jan. 31, April 30, July 31 and Oct. 31.
