The Cleveland Botanical Garden endorses a certificate program in landscape horticulture at Cleveland State University. This program is estimated to take two or more terms to complete, and students in this program are required to take seven courses before receiving their certificate of completion. These courses include an introduction to horticulture and landscape operations, which must be taken first; care and selection of trees, shrubs, and ground covers; selection and care of turf grass; landscape design; plant health care for the landscape; and flowers for the landscape. These courses are designed and taught by practicing professionals.

The North Carolina Botanical Garden at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a choice of two certificate programs including botanical illustration and native plant studies; these certificate programs are designed for adult learners. Students who are interested in the botanical illustration certificate program will learn how to improve their drawing and painting skills to illustrate plants in a detailed and technical manner. The curriculum consists of 12 core classes, three electives, and a final project. The native plant certificate program gives students basic scientific background combined with the field experience related to the local native plant species. Students in this certificate program will take courses that include taxonomy, botany, seasonal studies of the local flora and ecology.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia offers a certificate program in native plants. This certificate program prepares dedicated professionals and amateurs alike with the basic knowledge and skills that are needed regarding native plants. This program is also designed for those who wish to become more knowledgeable as a volunteer or advocate in their local community. Short courses are offered in identification, propagation, conservation, cultivation, and ecology of the native plants of Georgia. In addition to the four core courses and six elective courses, students in this program will also participate in two field trips and volunteer service.
