As part of their Continuing Education offerings, the Tri-County Vocational Technical School offers a Pell-eligible Practical Nursing certificate program. Applicants must be at least 17.5 years old. Academically, they must have earned a high school diploma or GED with a "C" grade in high school English, science and math and achieved the minimum required English, math and science scores in the pre-admission exam, the Test of Essential Academic Skills. The day program lasts one year, and the evening program takes two years to complete.
Part of the 58-campus North Carolina Community College System, Mayland Community College offers 35 curriculum programs covering business, engineering, public service, health sciences, college transfer programs and public safety; these can lead to diplomas, associate's degrees and certificates. Several certificate programs are Pell eligible, including the Early Childhood Associate certificate, Office Administration-General Office Certificate, and the 1,200- hour Cosmetology certificate.
Lanier Technical College in northeast Georgia provides workforce development, technical education and adult education, including GED and ESL training. All associate's degrees and diploma programs at the College are Pell eligible. In addition, several certificate programs are Pell-eligible, including Advanced General Machinist, Cosmetic Esthetician, Healthcare Science, Internet Specialist Website Developer and Motorsports Chassis Technician.
A division of Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Mt. Diablo Adult Education provides lifelong learning programs to help adults attain their employment, education and personal goals. Their Administrative Assistant certificate is Pell eligible. This program takes approximately eight months to complete and covers keyboarding; office skills; computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Excel, and a 240-hour business office internship arranged after successful completion of coursework.
Students are eligible for Pell Grants if they demonstrate financial need, are U.S. citizens (or eligible non-citizens), have earned a high school diploma or GED, have not defaulted on federal student loans and have not completed or received a bachelor's or professional degree. Students must also maintain satisfactory progress as they complete their post-secondary education and have resolved issues connected to drug convictions.
Institutions that offer certificate and degree programs are generally eligible if they meet all required criteria: The institution must be a state-accredited, legal public or private nonprofit that offers higher education or post-secondary vocational training, and the certificate or degree program lasts at least one year and leads to gainful employment. If the certificate program is less than one year, it meets the federal eligibility requirements for Pell Grants if it requires 600 clock hours or 16 semester or trimester hours and the certificate program is state accredited.
