The International Ph.D. Program at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management is modeled on similar programs at North American universities and conducts all courses, papers and dissertations in English. It is aimed at scholars who will do advanced scientific research in management and admits doctoral candidates to study human resources, management, marketing and strategic management and organizational behavior. The four-year program (for those with a master’s degree) in Beijing accepts, on average, only 11 students each year in each discipline. The faculty includes renowned international scholars who teach courses and serve on the dissertation committees.

Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich, Germany, has an international doctoral program in life sciences that covers anthropology, biochemistry and cell biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, microbiology, plant sciences, systematics and zoology. Candidates who hold a master’s degree may apply for the three- to four-year program, which does not charge tuition. All classes are taught in English by members of LMU’s faculty of biology and faculty of chemistry, biochemistry and pharmacy. Research focuses on specific projects and the work includes seminars, summer schools, courses in methodology and participation in international conferences. LMU is among Germany’s top universities.

International students can earn a Ph.D. in law at the London School of Economics. The degree takes three to four years of full-time study to complete. It can take up to six years for a part time student to fulfill requirements. The program supports the development of a thesis and original research in legal, or interdisciplinary, projects that make a contribution to the field. Some current research areas include property law, cultural property and heritage, international trade/World Trade Organization, environmental law and biotechnology, among many others. The Ph.D. program awards a limited number of competitive scholarships–to U.K. and international doctoral students–to cover three years of study and a living stipend.
