A research project and thesis is the final program requirement for graduation. The student must already posses a master's degree in economics or a related discipline in order to qualify for admission to the program. Completion of the doctorate requires 52 credits spread amongst core and minor academic courses, in addition to a comprehensive final examination, dissertation proposal and project and an oral review of the dissertation. This Ph.D. differs from other straightforward programs in economics as the main focus of the program is on development economics. Students take courses covering economic impact on the environment, globalization, sustainable development and economic growth.
