Crowder College has a certificate program in pharmacy technician that is conducted in a hybrid format; this means that students will take courses online as well as attend classes in a traditional classroom format. Students in this program are expected to be prepared with the online portion of the program prior to attending the classroom instruction each week and will be quizzed online on a weekly basis at the end of each week. Students will take courses that include business computer applications, pharmacology concepts, pharmacy techniques and an optional medical terminology course.

Cuyahoga Community College offers a Certificate of Proficiency program in pharmacy technology that prepares students to become pharmacy technicians. In this program, students are taught how to compound, package and label the prescriptions as well as the effects that medications have on the body. Students have the option of attending day classes or evening classes. The program lasts for two semesters and students will take classes that include introduction to biological chemistry, human biology, introduction to pharmacy practice and pharmacology and therapeutic principles.

Texas Southern University has a 50-hour pharmacy technician program that leads to a certificate upon completion of the program. Students are prepared to take the certification exam to become a certified pharmacy technician. Students in this program will take medical terminology courses and will learn how to define drugs by both generic and brand names. Students will also learn how to compound drugs, calculate dosage, read and interpret prescriptions and how to dispense the customers' prescriptions.

Bergen Community College has a pharmacy technician program where students can earn a certificate of completion. This program is designed to prepare students for the certification examination and consists of 50 hours of study that are taken over the course of 17 sessions. Students will learn how to check inventories and order supplies; complete insurance forms; assist customers; and receive and check the supplies that arrive. Students will also learn how to prepare medications that will be dispensed to patients.
