San Diego State University has a certificate program in rehabilitation technology designed to provide engineering students as well as non-engineering students with an insight to rehabilitation technology. In addition to the formal delivery of classroom instruction, students also participate in externships as part of the curriculum's requirements. In order for students to be admitted into this post-bachelor's degree program, they must have earned a bachelor's degree in special education, rehabilitation, engineering or a related allied health field.

Moraine Valley Community College has a psychiatric rehabilitation technician certificate program that prepares students for entry into the rehabilitation field as aides or technicians. The program consists of four courses along with four internships that correspond with each course. Courses include survey of psychiatric rehabilitation, health skills for psychiatric rehabilitation, vocational and community living skills and psychiatric rehabilitation skills.

The University of Maine at Augusta has a substance abuse rehabilitation certificate program designed for students who already have a degree in another field or who are working on a degree in another field and want to become counselors in substance abuse. The curriculum includes courses such as chemical dependency, introduction to social service systems, sexual abuse and trauma, psychosocial rehabilitation and substance abuse counseling for special populations.

The University of South Florida has a graduate certificate program in rehabilitation technology that began in the spring semester of 2006. This program teaches students about the medical aspects of disability, emerging and current rehabilitation technology and lifestyle and career assessment. This program can be completed on the student's own schedule but must be completed in no more than three years. Required courses include applications of rehabilitation technology services and introduction to engineering principles and applied rehabilitation technology.
